Cold Foil

Although cold foil is not brand new to the marketplace, the technology to apply it has become more reliable in the past few years and has become very popular in both the narrow-web flexographic market for many labels and in-line with sheet-fed offset printing for folding cartons and other commercial work. With cold foil, an adhesive is applied with the printing plate in a first station on the press and a second statin applies the foil. The foil only sticks to the adhesive area. In most cases, both with narrow-web flexo or offset, the foil is applied in the first two stations of the press and then the foil is overprinted. Press manufacturers offer this technology on new presses and there are retrofit units on the market for existing presses.
